India
successfully launches the seventh and final navigation satellite into the orbit
IRNSS-1G and very soon will have its own GPS like navigation system called
“Navic” which in Hindi means “Sailor” or “Navigator”. India will now compete
with the USA’s GPS, Russia’s GLONASS, and European Union’s GNSS. According to
Isro its applications include terrestrial, aerial and marine navigation,
disaster management, vehicle tracking and fleet management, integration with
mobile phones, precise timing, mapping and navigation for hikers and drivers. The
whole projects life expectancy is estimated to be about 12 years and will have
to look forward about its accuracy and usefulness.
Solar
impulse 2, the plane on a mission to cover the round the world flight to
promote the clean energy technologies will resume its flight. After being
grounded for more than 6 months due to battery problems now it will fight off
for Arizona. It is powered by the 17000 solar cells and its wingspan is wider
than that of a jumbo jet but its weight is roughly the same as a family car.
Apple
Inc. posted it’s first-ever decline in iPhone sales and its first revenue drop
in 13 years. Seems like Apple’s empire has been shaken by the new comers
offering the very competitive product at very competitive price. But CEO Tim
Cook sees it as the opportunity and in an interview about the Apple’s next
strategy he said “company has got great innovation in pipeline" and
new iPhones that will attract people in markets like India.” Apple sees a
"huge market potential" for its products in India and the technology
giant is "really putting energy" in the country which will begin
rolling out high-speed wireless networks this year. He said Apple is
"now...really putting energy in India" as well as in other markets
across the world "where I think that people sitting here in this country
look at it through just a lens of what's happening in the United States. And
but there are a lot of people in the world who don't have the pleasure of
owning an iPhone yet."
Xiaomi will launch the new
Mi Max and Mi band 2 products very soon globally. Both the products are
confirmed by the company. And it has also confirmed that Mi Watch is in line
for the launch and will compete directly with the Samsung gear, Huawei Watch, Apple
Watch.
Indian railway has launched
the service to cancel the train ticket by simply dialing 139. The passenger has
to dial 139 giving details of the confirmed ticket for cancelling it and you
will get a one-time password (OTP). Passenger has to reach the Passenger
Reservation System (PRS) counter and reveal the OTP to claim refund. Besides
139, one can also cancel confirmed tickets using IRCTC website also and both
the facilities. He said both the initiatives were promised in the Railway
Budget 2016-17 which were now fulfilled.
Some rumors have been there
regarding the IRCTC website has been hacked. According to a news report,
the Maharashtra cyber cell had informed IRCTC about a potential data theft of
its user registration details. IRCTC PRO Sandip Dutta said “There has been no
hacking as such, we've checked our data for the last one month and beyond that.
As for the report as far as data theft is concerned, a committee has been
formed and they are inquiring into the matter".
SpaceX successfully landed the
first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating platform in the Atlantic Ocean
early Friday after launching a Japanese communications satellite into orbit. The
California-based company pulled off such a landing last month for the
first time, after launching an unmanned cargo ship to the International Space
Station. With such successful landing on a floating surface, there will be
more frequent launches at less cost.
