WiFi 7 Under A Blue Sky

It looks like WiFi alliance is working very hard to ensure that people experience the best of technology and make the most out of it. While the WiFi 6 is barely out in the real world, WiFi alliance (The Godfather of WiFi technology) is planning to roll out the new WiFi 7 standard as early as in the year 2024.

Fast pace technological development is not always beneficial for consumers and big technology companies. WiFi 6 rolled out for commercial use in the year  2019-2020. Just now when we were starting to taste the theoretical speed of WiFi 6's 10 Gbps, it looks like we have to taste it a bit longer even when the WiFi 7 comes out. 

Now you might be thinking why we have to wait a bit longer? Well, the answer is simple. ADAPTATION. It takes years for the company to get the latest technology mainstream and make it available for commercial use. Because its a huge investment and nobody wants to bear the heavy cost just to provide their user's with the best of the technology, it becomes difficult for the companies to keep providing the best of the technology. Well, that's the thing about technology the moment you start making it mainstream and suddenly something else comes up, Tada, you are in a big storm (Don't you know the case of Micromax's falling empire).

Now let's talk about the WiFi 7 speed. Wi-Fi 7 theoretical speed will be as high as 30 Gbps or maybe somewhat nearer to that and it will ensure better streaming video quality, longer range and fewer problems within the congested network. The labelling schema for the previous generation was IEEE 802.11n, 802.11ac, and 802.11ax as Wi-Fi 4, 5 and 6. It is expected to be 802.11be for WiFi 7 standard. Still, there's no confirmation from the WiFi Alliance.

Till now, there there's only been two radio frequency bands: 2.4GHz and 5GHz utilised, but it is expected that WiFi 7 speed will be utilising the 6GHz band. Lesser the traffic more will be the speed. There will be the whole bunch of technological changes with the new WiFi 7 standard and we will be seeing a lot of WiFi 7 devices like WiFi 7 router.
