7 Things You Should Follow While Working From Home
The Corona-virus pandemic is taking the whole world by shit-storm. Every single person's life is affected and all we can do is nothing about it. Well, the only thing that you can do to make a difference is not doing anything at all and stay at home. While our ancestors fought the war on the battlefield we have to fight this war by staying at home, laying on our couch and literally have to do nothing at all.
While many of you are enjoying your not so planned vacation at your home. You employer might have ruined your lazy couch party by telling you that you have to work from home till this pandemic gets over and our life gets normal again. There are various things that you must keep in mind and follow strictly to ensure a smooth flow of work without compromising the security.
Work from home may sound fun to you but ask your IT department about all the arrangements they have to make to ensure that not even a single data gets leaked and security gets compromised. Following are some general things that you can follow to ensure that your employer gets impressed and doesn't overload you with work once this pandemic gets over.
1. Always Use VPN
A virtual private network is like a tunnel from your home to your office that only those can access that have the key. Always make sure to use the VPN provided by your employer and never forget to use the same. Even if your employer doesn't provide you with a VPN there are lots of free VPN services like Opera VPN, Thunder VPN that you can rely on. However, I would recommend you not to go for the free version. As the work from home is increasing, hackers are targeting the home network for ransomware and trojans. Use VPN and put a line between you and hackers out there.
2. Always Use Office Emails Accounts
While working from home, it might be possible that you may use your personal email accounts and google drive for saving certain documents. Do not use your personal email accounts for your company work as it may lead to accidental data leaks and may compromise the credibility of your company.
3. Lock The Fucking Laptop
Oops! sorry for using this four-letter remarkable word but it is true and very basic that while working from home we often leave our laptop open when not using it or going for a break. Now you may think that why would anyone want to put their head in your work but remember it is human tendency to peep into something when you don't have anything to do. Your kid might make a video conference or send a random email to your boss or your colleague. In that case, be prepared to feel the embarrassment of being careless.
4. Stop Clicking Photos Of Your Workstation and Sharing it On Social Media
It is quite common that while social distancing ourselves we want to stay connected with our loved ones via social media. If you also have that habit of sharing everything on social media than stop doing it. Sharing your home workstation or laptop pictures online may land you in some trouble as it may expose of important information that is on your laptop screen. Don't you remember how someone recreated exact fingerprint of German minister using a photo and hacked iPhone 5s fingerprint mechanism?
5. Do Not Share Your Laptop With Any One
It is advisable not to share your office laptop with your spouse who works in a different company or to give it to your children for playing games. It might be possible that they may end up leaking important information from your laptop unintentionally.
6. Use Different Browser For Your Office Work
Never use the same web browser for your office and personal work. In this age of tracking and data leaks, your every single keystroke gets tracked. You might search for something in your free time and then when you resume working on your office work it is possible that you might see unwanted advertisement regarding the same. It will be too embarrassing to see such things once you join your office as this advertisement doesn't tends to leave you easily.
7. Do Not Use Social Media While Working
If you are a socially addicted person that loves to share everything online then you have to control your habit. It might be possible that you may see something on social media and like or comment with your company social media account. You may not know this at that moment but it is very embarrassing once you know about it.
Just follow these simple things while working from home and make it a great experience altogether. Till next time stay safe, stay updated and stay connected.
