Tinder Video Chat Feature
Tinder’s parent company, Match Group in its earnings report has announced that its online dating app Tinder will soon rollout the one-on-one chat feature by the June end this year. However, it is unclear at the moment how the company will roll out the feature and how it will tackle the misuse of the feature as it is hard to report the abuse for video calls. Tinder might opt-in for the offensive image detection system or will join any third party for the same. The COVID-19 has taught so many things these days, the technology we were using and dependent upon and the technology we need. Amid the lockdown, the use of video chatting is increased trifold than what it was before.
While it will be difficult for the company to tackle the misuse of the feature, it will surely help in verifying the fake profiles. As of now, users have to rely on the chat feature only. The success of any dating platform depends upon two things, first is how many verified and genuine users it has and other is how many female users are actively using the app. Tinder in its earning report shared that female user under the age of 30 on has swiped 37 per cent more compared to February this year.
"Social distancing has required adaptations and pivots and has impacted our business because the manner in which singles engage with our products and start relationships has quickly evolved. We know that singles are adjusting their behaviours, and many are shifting to having dates virtually via phone or video," Match Group.
Tinder has also stated that amid the pandemic, it's subscriber base has seen a decline between February to March. It looks like Tinder wants to left no stone unturned to create a loyal user base. We will see how the company roll out the new feature and how it will attract more and more users. Till next time stay safe stay connected and stay updated.
