VNO? Can be a game changer!
This month is going to be super hectic for
the technology experts. E3(Electronic Entertainment Expo) at Los Angeles

Community going operational from 20th June, Apple’s WWDC(World Wide
Developer Conference), Lenovo Tech World’16, New Moto’s in town, Bluetooth 5
technology release, Android ‘N’ final name to be released this month and a lot
more to come. But you don’t worry Techiyappa has covered it all for you, stay
connected and follow on the Facebook
(@Techiyappa) for all the sneak peek. Coming to the very interesting
thing, Have you ever heard of Google Simcard? Or Going at the recharge shop and
telling “Bhaiya Google mai 50ka recharge kardena” . Well obviously this is not
an ongoing scenario in India but very soon it can be.
TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India)
has allowed the setup of VNO, Who could offer consumers more option for voice
and data services as well as will provide the opportunity to the telcos for
utilizing unused air waves. But what exactly is VNO? Who are they? What will be
the benefit for the consumers? Does it make any difference?
VNO (Virtual Network Operator) are the retailer or the reseller of the telecom services purchased from other telecommunications supplier like BSNL, Vodafone. It will allow them to buy spectrum or infrastructure from existing telcos to provide service under its own brand. It means they buy bulk minutes or data services and then sell them accordingly. However they would not be allowed to install equipment interconnecting with network of other telecom operators but will be able to use the pre-established services and infrastructure. They will be allowed to offer all the telecom services after obtaining the license from the government. TRAI has also issued the recommendations for setting up of VNO in May last year.
-VNOs
need to be introduced through a proper “licensing framework” in the country.
-VNOs
that wish to introduce services should be allowed to frame their own set of
infrastructure sharing agreement after consulting with their corresponding
NSOs.
– TRAI
or the Department of Telecom should have the right to intervene, when required,
in the matter to protect consumer interests.
– VNOs
would not require performance bank guarantees or subjected to rollout conditions
since they did not own the network. However, the VNO will be responsible for
customer verification and number activation of its customers.
According
to a Bloomberg report almost 60% of the 300 Mobile Virtual Network Operating in
the United States are profitable. And introduction of VNO in India will
definitely help the telecom sector and reduce the cost for various
telecommunication services.
However
a proper roll out of the VNO in India will definitely prove to be a revolution
in telecom industry. This is all for now fellas, Keep coming to the blog for such
interesting topic and feel to free to comment for any discussion or advice. Till
next post stay updated.
