How To Run Windows Defender In a Sandbox?

When it comes to antivirus no one remembers the inbuilt security provided by the Microsoft i.e. windows defender, because no matter how hard microsoft tries to promote it as an best inbuilt security for your windows it just simply doesnlt gonna last in front of big and known players like Quick Heal or Avast or Kaspersky. But it looks like that is going to change with the latest development. Now you can run your windows defender in a sandbox.

Sandbox technique isn't new but yes windows defender is the first antivirus to come with this remarkably excellent feature. Sandboxing, in simple terms, is a security mechanism which isolates a software/process in a tightly controlled area in the operating system. Which ultimately helps the application from using high memory and disk resource. In 2008 Google sandboxed the chrome web browser and made it hard for the attackers to gain the full PC control by compromising the chrome. Thus the main highlight of the sandbox is that it controls the damage by running a program/process in a tight and sealed environment.

This feature is still under testing by Microsoft engineers and will be released first for Windows Insider users. But, users who can’t wait for the “complete antivirus solution” on their system, they can try this feature right away.

1. Start the cmd(command prompt) with administrator rights.
2. Type setx /M MP_FORCE_USE_SANDBOX 1
3. Press enter and wait for the validation.
4. Restart the PC.

Note: This feature will run on Windows 10 Version 1703 and above.

Do mention in the comment section what you think of the new feature. Till next time stay safe and stay updated.
