How To Secure Home Wifi Network From Hackers.
There were days when only three things were considered as a basic human needs i.e. (Food, Cloth and Home), But thanks to the internet boom, now we have two more addition in the list i.e. (Smartphone and Internet). For most of the people it is hard to imagine even a second to survive without smartphone and internet. While the use of internet is increasing day by day, we are getting least concerned about the security of our devices connected with internet.
Hackers are getting smart day by day and even novice script kiddies are also able to cause a great havoc by using the ready to use software. So it becomes very important for us to protect our self from all this mess and secure our digital life. One of the most common trait is Wifi hacking and it's very common to find this little devices in nearly every home, that makes them a sweet spot for hacking and anyone with little to less knowledge will be able to peep into your digital life. You cannot totally eliminate the chances of hacking, even if you are using the high tech devices, but there are certain points to keep in mind while setting up Wifi that will surely reduce your chances of getting hacked.
1. Hide Your SSID.
Hiding your SSID or Your Wifi name would avoid the uninvited guests from the party. While many of us don't pay attention to this simple yet logical thing, most of the hacking will not take place if you stop broadcasting your SSID. Well after all broadcasting your SSID would be like "Come Bull Hit Me".
2. Bind The Mac Address.
Bind your Mac address of the devices who will probably be using the Wifi most of the time. While this will give you a headache if you have a lot of guests coming to your house, because you have to bind each of their Mac address every time they try to connect the Wifi. However i'd choose the security over convenience.
3. Keep Strong Passphrase | Password.
This is the most common trait that make your Wifi device vulnerable. It is quite obvious that the person trying to connect to your Wifi will probably do social engineering and would try from your birthday date to your spouse name as Wifi password. So avoid doing so and keep a long password that have capitals, numbers and special characters.
4. Change Password Every 3 Months.
Many of us don't change the Wifi password because we find it quite cumbersome process and some of us don't know even how to change that at all. But changing your password quarterly will surely make the hacker do head scratch. So make it a habit of changing your Wifi password.
5. Update The Router Firmware.
