Consumer Electronics Show-2017 : Part 1

When the word “New Year” comes to your mind, you might think of partying, late night DJ’s, celebrations and some resolutions. But when you ask the same thing to a tech geek, you’ll hear CES, MWC, and IFA. Don’t worry, those are not some fancy places to hangout. But instead, these are the platform where, from novices to amateur player showcases the ‘What’s next’ of consumer electronics. And this year started off with the CES.

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is an annual trade show held in January at Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The 2017 CES was held from January 5-8. CES very much gives a glimpse of what the rest of the year is going to be, it’s kind of a prediction that is being true since 49 years, More or less.

This year CES gave us a glimpse of what will define 2017. From Autonomous cars to IOT to Upgraded TV’s and Computers, everything was just perfectly refined and beyond perfection. While there wasn’t any blockbuster at CES this year, but there were still a lot of ideas on display. While the event itself took more than 3 days it’s very much difficult to write about each keynotes and products showcased at CES with utmost detail. I have tried to cover in this blog, some interesting technologies and device that impressed me with picture approach so that you can see much and read less.

Starting off with my favourite category, Autonomous cars.

1.Chrysler Portal: An all electric self driving next generation family transportation designed by millennials for millennials.

Portal’s battery has a capacity of 250 miles on full charge, it has 350 kilowatt DC Fast Charge.Which can be recharged with 150 miles of range in just 20 minutes. As this is a concept from Chrysler it boasts all the fancy technologies, Whether it is self-driving functionality, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, interior cameras for passenger selfies, and something called Personal Zoned Audio, where the driver and the passenger can listen to their own music with no overlap. Sounds too futuristic..

2. Faraday Future's FF91: An all electric beast.

The company which was in trouble because of fund has presented a very beautiful beast that company claims can reach 0-60 in 2.39 Seconds with 1000 horsepower.

3. Hyundai's Ioniq: The affordable driver less car for masses.

Hyundai claims that it is using some cheaper sensors and less computing power to make it the most affordable futuristic cars available in the market. It boasts a 28 kWh lithium-ion pack which provides 250 km of range.
While these were the one's which grabbed my attention there were other noticeable launches also. Like Nissan's Leaf, Honda's NeuV, Nvidia's BB8, BMW's Vision and Toyota's Concept-i.

Television's: The future is transparent.

1.LG's 4K OLED TV: Thinner than your credit card.

LG's new W series or Wallpaper series TV features the 4K resolution and picture on wall design. It comes in two sizes 65-inch and 77-inch, 65-inch model measures 2.57 millimeters thick. It runs on LG's WebOS instead of Android TV. While the prices are yet to be revealed by LG, It will start shipping in February and arrive in stores by March.

2.Samsung's QLED TV: CRT, LCD, LED, OLED. QLED?

Samsung claims that the next big thing after OLED will be QLED which  are capable of reproducing “100 percent color volume”. It is powered by Tizen and pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed by Samsung.

3. Sony's 4K Bravia with Dolby Vision HDR.

Sony not only revealed its most beautiful TV's ever made but also a jaw droping technology, This TV has Dolby Vision HDR which emits the sound from the display itself. Sony claims this approach “produces a wide sound and image synchronization from all angles, even off to the sides.” It runs on Android TV and can be controlled with Google home speaker. It will be available in three sizes 55,65,77 - inches.
Some other TV's also launched worth mentioning is Xiaomi's Thinnest TV so Far,
The Mi TV.

This year CES seems to be all about the thinner the better approach, as far as TV's are concerned.

Home appliances were also present at the CES 2017, And to describe them one word it would be 'Smart' nearly every thing was a refinement in one or the other form.

Samsung's FlexWash and FlexDry laundry system: Craziest thing so far by samsung.

This crazy laundry machine comes with two side-by-side front-load washer and dryer and dryer pair, but both units have a smaller washer or dryer incorporated into the top of the machine, top-load style. But the best part is it can be controlled by your Samsung smart home app.

LG's Smart Fridge:
LG smart fridge

It has a 29-inch front touchscreen with something called Instaview, a “door in door” that can turn translucent to show you the contents of your fridge. LG also claims that it has the ability to look up recipes, play music, check the weather, and shop online. Instead of sticky notes, users can leave notes and tags on the front using webOS, and a “fresh tracker” can keep track of food expiration dates. But the best part is it can be integrated with the Amazon's Alexa.

Laptops and PC's:

Razer's Project Valerie: New level of going insane.

This is Razer's functional prototype wich boasts three 4K IGZO display. A fantasy comes true for pro gamer's. While the pricing and delivery details are yet to be confirmed from the Razer, While it has the same specs as Razer pro the super sharp screens just add to the beauty. It would be nice to see if this would make it to the production.

Dell's New XPS 13 2 in 1:

A convertible version of Dell's popular XPS 13. Just like the regular XPS 13, Dell’s 2-in-1 version uses an InfinityEdge display with just a 5.2mm border. They packs the Core M with fan-less design. Dell is planning to start shipping the 2-in-1 later this month starting at $999.

Dell's Latitude 5285: Looks alike a Surface pro.
Dell Latitude 5285 2-in-1

Dell's latest release is a tablet with a built-in kickstand, that's meant to be used with a soft keyboard cover, and supports input from a stylus. It has a 12.3-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio ,supports up to a 1TB SSD, includes up to 16GB RAM , and supports traditional Core i processors from Intel. All the specs are just alike the Surface pro, But it has only 1080p display.

Acer's Insanely crafted pro gaming machine: Predator 21 X

But what is the price for a first ever laptop with 21-inch curved screen with 2560*1080 resolution, Two GeForce GTX 1080 graphic card, Seventh gen core i7 processor, Upto 64GB RAM, Four 512GB SSD? An eye popping $8,999 and the laptops will be available starting in february.

To be continued......
